If you are looking for a fun and sporty vehicle with plenty of room inside without being too large, then a subcompact crossover SUV is a great choice. These models have become increasingly popular over the last few decades because of the way they beautifully blend the functionality of larger SUV models with a smaller size, more like a sedan. Of course, this rise in popularity means that car companies have responded by giving you more options than ever before, making it tricky to decide which one is perfect for you. Let’s look at the 2023 Nissan Kicks vs 2023 Hyundai Venue and see how well the Kicks delivers everything you need.
In many ways, the Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Venue have a lot in common, with similar overall sizes and engines that deliver nearly identical performance. However, once you look deeper, you start to notice some significant differences between these two models. Despite their similarities in size, the Nissan Kicks has a nicer interior that provides more space inside for you and your passengers to stretch out in. Not only that, but you also get more cargo space to take advantage of, particularly regarding the rear cargo area and how much you can fit into it before you hit the road.
Along with this spacious interior, you will also find fantastic comfort and tech features within these two subcompact models, though once again, the Nissan Kicks comes out ahead. For example, you can find available Prima-Tex-appointed seating inside the Kicks, with standard cloth seating that is sure to keep you and your passengers quite comfortable. While the Kicks and Venue both have 8-inch infotainment displays available, the 4.2-inch gauge display of the Venue is far surpassed by the 7-inch Drive-Assist Display offered in the Nissan model. Similarly, advanced safety features like a Blind Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning are available in the Venue, but you get a Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert standard on every Kicks model.
Although there are many different things to consider as you are looking for your next vehicle, few are as important as how the interior will work for you. This is surprisingly easy to overlook since so much focus can end up on the features you find and other specific details, all of which are also important. But since your time with your vehicle will be spent with you inside it, along with your passengers and everything you need to bring, it is vital that you choose a vehicle with the kind of space inside that you require.
Both the 2023 Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Venue are subcompact crossovers with two rows of seating inside, giving you space for up to five passengers within them. In general, they are about the same size and have similar total space, but how the engineers and designers at each company have approached this space has created some important differences between them. Inside the Kicks, for example, you get more than 40 inches of headroom up front and more than 43 inches of legroom to stretch out. By comparison, the Hyundai Venue has about 39 inches of front headroom and just 41 inches of legroom.
Perhaps even more remarkably, you get quite a bit more space in the rear of the Kicks for stuff you need to bring. The Venue has just over 18 cu.ft. of rear cargo space with less than 32 cu.ft. of total cargo volume. Inside the Nissan Kicks, you get more than 25 cu.ft. of rear cargo volume and more than 32 cu.ft. of total cargo space. This means you get more space overall and much more rear space, making the interior of the Kicks a lot more functional.
Your experience with your vehicle, day in and day out, is impacted more by the features you have inside it than anything else. This is why the comfort and tech features you can get are so important and why you need to make sure you choose a vehicle with everything you could want. To be fair, both of these models have a lot to offer, but the Nissan Kicks comes out ahead in some key ways that make driving it much more enjoyable.
For starters, the Hyundai Venue has standard cloth seating with combined cloth/leatherette seating available. Heated seating is only offered on the highest trim level, with an available leather-wrapped steering wheel offered on higher trims. Hyundai has an 8-inch infotainment display inside the Venue, joined by a 4.2-inch gauge display. Multiple USB ports are found within the Venue, and while a single trim has a sunroof available, the other two do not.
Inside the 2023 Nissan Kicks, you will find standard cloth seating with a six-way driver’s seat and four-way front-passenger seat, with Sport cloth seating featuring orange accents available for a unique touch, or Prima-Tex-appointed seating with the same orange details. Heated front seats are available along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and you can get a heated steering wheel for added comfort.
An available 8-inch infotainment display in the Kicks is much like the one in the Venue, while the available 7-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display is significantly larger than what you can find from Hyundai, plus you can get a Bose Personal Plus audio system with eight speakers for an incredible audio experience while driving your Kicks.
As far as we are concerned, nothing is more important than how well your vehicle can protect you and help keep you safe while on the road. It does not matter if you are looking at a hard-working truck, an exciting sports car, or a practical crossover SUV—your vehicle needs to be safe. While both the Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Venue have good safety features across all their trim levels, you get more from Nissan when looking at what comes standard. We believe that everyone deserves an incredibly safe vehicle, no matter which trim level you prefer or what your budget allows, which is why we are so happy to see so many great systems standard on all Kicks models from Nissan.
With the Nissan Kicks, every model comes with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 package of standard safety features, which includes Cruise Control, a Forward Collision Alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. You also get a Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and both a Blind Spot Warning and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert standard on every model. If you want to take things even further, then additional options like Intelligent Cruise Control, an Intelligent Around View Monitor, and Intelligent Driver Alertness are all available. This means that every Kicks model has fantastic features throughout, with a few upgrades to take things even further.
The Hyundai Venue comes with the Hyundai SmartSense package, which includes a Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system with Pedestrian Detection, along with a Lane Keeping Assist feature and Driver Attention Warning. Other systems you would expect, such as Electronic Stability Control, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and Anti-lock Braking System, are also standard. If you want more than these basic features, however, then Hyundai offers a few things as extra options, such as Cyclist Detection for the Forward Collision-Avoidance system. What we find disappointing, however, is that both a Blind-Spot Collision Warning and a Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning are available on higher trims but not provided as standard features, unlike the Kicks.
