Why Should You Get Your Oil Changed?

Changing your oil is one of the more inexpensive services for your regular car maintenance. Even though this maintenance is fairly inexpensive, it plays a huge roll in the longevity of your engine and saves you from forking over large sums of cash down the road.
The Role of Oil
Engine oil provides three key functions:
- It keeps engine components working together.
- The inside of an engine, a place where there are thousands of controlled detonations happening every minute, can be a hot place, and oil helps draw heat away from the combustion chamber.
- It also helps prevent carbon and varnishes from accumulating in the engine.
What Oil Should I Use?
There are many types of engine oil, but it’s pretty easy to determine what kind you should use in your car. Your owner’s manual should tell you the appropriate viscosity of oil – like 5W-30, for instance – that your engine requires, and the viscosity may also be stamped on the oil reservoir cap on the engine itself. If you have questions about what oil your car takes give Newton Nissan a call and we can let you know what oil you need. At Newton Nissan South, we only use synthetic oil, as we believe it is the best performing oil for your engine.
How Often Should I Change My Oil?
Oil changes are often recommended when a certain mileage or time limit is reached. The most conventional interval is 3,000 miles or three months. The good news is, at Newton Nissan South, have the least expensive synthetic oil change around! Call us for more information.
What if I Don’t Change My Oil?
A major problem is that there will begin to be buildup in the cooler parts of the engine, like the crankcase and around the camshafts and valves. This can lead to carbon deposits, or sludge, coming out of the old oil. Which could require an engine cleaning or force you to replace worn-out piston rings. The costs of these repairs can be expensive.
On the worse end of things, the pistons could seize or the camshafts may become damaged. Costs for these repairs would make a few oil changes look like pocket change. Regular oil changes are like really cheap engine insurance.
