That being said, this is still a crossover with plenty of room throughout for your passengers and any cargo that you need to be able to take with you. The slim size of the Kicks makes it a fantastic choice if you do a lot of city driving and want something that is easy to fit through crowded streets or if you want an option that you can add to a modest lifestyle.
This is a relatively recent model that was first released here in the US for the 2018 model year, so it has not been through a massive number of changes just yet. The first generation has been quite successful for the Kicks, however, and it has proven a popular option for anyone looking for a small crossover. There was a pretty significant update for the Kicks with the 2021 model year, however, which included big changes to the front end and much of the exterior. The 2021 update also included new touches and details throughout the interior, but the engine and overall driving experience remained pretty consistent.
If you want something a bit larger than the Kicks, then the Rogue is a terrific option––a compact crossover that is bigger without going up to a midsize model. The Nissan Rogue is also a two-row vehicle with seating for up to five passengers, but you get more room in the rear with the Rogue, so this is a great choice if you have adults and kids who tend to ride in the back. There are even some models that have had an optional third row of seating available. Since it was first introduced, the Rogue has proven to be an incredibly popular option, and it delivers on sporty performance, a sleek design, and great features inside and out.
The first Nissan Rogue became available here in the US for the 2008 model year, with three trim levels and two different engines offered, plus it was available with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The Rogue was updated for the 2011 model year with interior and exterior changes, but performance remained largely the same. A second-generation Rogue was released for the 2014 model year with a full redesign that included an optional third row. A Rogue Hybrid option became available starting with the 2017 model year but was discontinued after 2020. The third generation of the Rogue launched with the 2021 model, which included a redesign with a new engine for improved performance. The following year, this was updated again to a turbocharged engine, which delivers boosted power and efficiency.
Much like the Kicks, the Nissan Rogue Sport is another model that has only been available for a relatively short time, at least here in the US. The Rogue Sport has been offered in other countries, such as the UK, as the Nissan Qashqai starting with the 2007 model year. Here in the US, however, we did not get the Rogue Sport until 2017, when it became available as a great new option. The Rogue Sport is a subcompact crossover that is perfect if you are looking for something that fits just between the Kicks and the Rogue.
Since the Rogue Sport launched for the 2017 model year, there have not been a huge number of changes to it yet, though some are worth mentioning. The Rogue Sport is still in its first generation, but there was a refresh and update for it with the 2020 model year. This refresh included a new front bumper and hood, new headlights and tail lights, plus more details inside and out. Even though this is its own model, it does share some similarities with the Rogue, including the use of three trims with similar names: the S, SV, and SL. Overall, the Rogue Sport is about a foot shorter in total length than the Rogue, with a slightly shorter wheelbase, but it is still longer than the Nissan Kicks.
If a compact or subcompact option is smaller than what you are looking for, then the Nissan Murano is a fantastic choice. This is a midsize crossover model that lets you take full advantage of the functionality of an SUV. First introduced for the 2003 model year, the Murano was released with a single V6 engine and either FWD or AWD, with impressive fuel economy for its size and class. Its spacious interior features two rows of seating for up to five passengers, making it a comfortable option for adults of pretty much any size.
Following its release for the 2003 model year, the Murano received some updates for 2006, including LED tail lamps and turn signals, plus a restyled front end. The Murano was available through the 2007 model year, but Nissan skipped 2008 and then brought it back for the 2009 model year to launch a second generation. This fully redesigned Murano was available with Intelligent AWD for boosted performance and featured a revised engine with greater horsepower and torque. For the 2011 model year, the Murano received another refresh with an updated front end, new LED lighting, and interior changes.
This was followed by the launch of a third generation for the 2014 model year; the third-generation Murano was once again redesigned and delivered with an impressive V6 engine. It offers bold performance and an exhilarating driving experience with a luxurious interior, plus it was once again refreshed for the 2019 model year. In 2021, the Murano was once again updated, with every model now including Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 technology package to make it one of the safest vehicles on the road.
As the longest-running Nissan SUV still in production, the Pathfinder has been through more changes than any other SUV in its lineup. When it first launched for the 1986 model year, the Pathfinder was a compact SUV, though it grew into a midsize SUV for its second generation, then became a midsize crossover model with the launch of its fourth generation. This is one of Nissan’s most popular models and an amazing choice if you are looking for an SUV that is perfect for off-road adventures and family road trips alike.
The first generation of the Pathfinder launched with its release in 1986 as competition for models like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee. It was initially offered as a two-door model, though a four-door option was introduced in 1989, and the two-door version was discontinued shortly thereafter. The second generation of the Pathfinder kicked off for the 1995 model year with a redesign that turned it into a midsize model, and from this point on, it has remained exclusively a four-door SUV. Its engine was upgraded for this generation, with an even-better engine coming with an update and refresh for the 2001 model year.
For the 2005 model year, Nissan launched the third-generation Pathfinder with a complete redesign that included a third row of seats. This generation received a facelift for the 2008 model year with a powerful V8 engine and numerous changes inside and out. With the 2013 model year, Nissan released the fourth generation of the Pathfinder, using a unibody design and sharing a platform with the Nissan Maxima and Murano. It retained its third row of seats and launched with an impressive V6 engine. An update for the 2014 model year included new tech options and a hybrid model, which was only available for a single year. After a facelift for the 2017 model year, a fifth-generation Pathfinder was launched for 2022, with a redesign and a new Intelligent 4x4 terrain management system.
The largest option in the Nissan lineup, the Armada is a full-size SUV with three rows of seating for you to take advantage of. If you are looking for a large SUV to fit a growing family, or you need something that you can load up with a ton of stuff, then this is for you. You get a tremendous amount of space inside the Armada, and it is designed to be functional, stylish, and incredibly fun to drive, with advanced safety to help protect you and your family.
Nissan launched this SUV for the 2004 model year as the Pathfinder Armada, but they dropped “Pathfinder” from its name, and it simply became the Armada for its second year. A facelift and refresh for the Armada was released for the 2008 model year and included improvements to its sound system and liftgate on its highest trim, and its trims were also simplified down to three options. The 2015 model year featured updated door panels inside, followed by the launch of its second generation for the 2017 model year.
For its second generation, Nissan redesigned the Armada and gave it a powerful V8 engine with superior horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency compared to the previous year. An update and refresh for the Armada came with the 2021 model year, which included a redesign for the front end, which featured a larger grille and new LED headlights. For this update, the center console was also redesigned and joined by a larger infotainment display, plus Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 package of advanced features became standard on every model.
The latest addition to the Nissan SUV lineup is also one of the most innovative and exciting: the all-electric ARIYA, which builds onto the lineup with an exciting electric vehicle option. First shown in late 2019 as a concept vehicle, the initial buzz was so strong that Nissan began development on the ARIYA as a production model, making some changes to improve its design and overall aesthetic. The ARIYA was originally meant to launch in 2021, but its release had to be delayed due to the global chip shortage caused by the COVID pandemic. This is a compact crossover model with two rows of seating and a spacious, functional interior.
Available as either a Standard Range or Extended Range option, the ARIYA can get more than 300 miles of range from a full charge, with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 5.1 seconds when properly configured.
