Over 100 Years of Nissan

No matter what you are searching for, Nissan has an excellent model to match your needs. This devotion to building quality cars has held true since the brand was established over 100 years ago. Since then, Nissan has grown to become one of the most popular and innovative automobile brands in the world.

Its roots began in 1911 when the company that we now know as Nissan was founded in Japan by Masujiro Hashimoto as Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works. Three years later, its first car, the DAT, a small passenger vehicle, was introduced to the public. By 1934, the company was officially known as the Nissan Motor Company and was producing Datsun cars as well as planes and trucks for the Japanese military. In 1937, the Datsun Type 15 became the first mass-produced Japanese vehicle.

The next few decades were years of expansion for Nissan as it began building vehicles for various automakers such as Austin Motor Company and Prince Motor Company. Its next foothold was in the Australian and American markets with its sedans and compact pickups. In 1960, it opened a subsidiary in the U.S. and built a new plant in England. Six years later, a new production facility was opened in Mexico. Growth came rapidly as its British facility was producing over 400,000 vehicles per year, the highest in Europe. The car manufacturer became popular in China and Brazil as well as all over the world. New production sites were opened in Australia and Taiwan. Its first production plant in the U.S. was built in 1983 in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Today, you'll find Nissan's award-winning vehicles on roadways all over the U.S. Popular nameplates include the full-size Maxima, the compact Sentra, the three-row Pathfinder, the versatile Rogue, and the mighty Armada. Nissan has even successfully branched out into electric vehicles, with the LEAF becoming the world's first mass-produced electric car back in 2010. Moving forward, Nissan plans to continue to lead the industry in technology and design excellence for years to come.

What Differentiates Nissan From Its Competitors

We're proud to carry the Nissan brand at our dealership. Nissan garnered many recent awards and accolades that cite its dedication to safety, the environment, cost-of-ownership, and reliability. In 2021, five of Nissan's vehicles were chosen by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as Top Safety Pick+ models. These are the 2021 Nissan Murano, Rogue, Maxima, Altima, and Sentra. In J.D. Power's 2021 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, the Nissan Frontier was chosen as the most reliable model in the midsize pickup segment.

In a nod toward its environmental stewardship, Nissan received several awards. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Nissan again as a 2021 Energy Star Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence awardee, the highest honor given by this department. It is Nissan's 12th Partner of the Year recognition and the 10th consecutive year in which it was recognized for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy management within its U.S. facilities. In the electric car category, Nissan has not been denied recognition. Autotrader selected the Nissan LEAF as one of the 10 Best Electric Cars for 2021.

Nissan was also recognized for producing some of the best family cars to own. In the prestigious Parents magazine's evaluation of the Best Family Cars of 2021, Nissan earned three spots with the Rogue, Pathfinder, and Maxima. All three of these vehicles provide for family safety, comfort, utility, and value. If you have a recent college graduate in your household, take a close look at the Nissan Sentra. In 2021, it was named as one of Autotrader's 10 Best Cars for Recent College Graduates for the second year in a row.
