Over 100 Years of Nissan

With all of the benefits that go along with choosing a Nissan, you'll appreciate the brand's rich heritage in the industry. Getting its start as the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works back in 1911, the Japanese automaker went on to create some of the most recognizable models on the road, many of which are still being manufactured today. Nissan went through several name changes over the years, and for a long time it was known as Datsun here in America. But from the high-end Nissan Skyline to the affordable Datsun brand, Nissan gained recognition as a dependable member of the auto industry, and as the years progressed, even more celebrated offerings emerged.

By the 1970s, Nissan had sold over one million vehicles and was expanding its presence outside of Japan. As part of its expansion, Nissan opened the Smyrna Assembly Plant, which is just an hour away from Lynchburg and is now one of the largest automotive plants in America. The first American-built Nissan pickup truck rolled out of the Smyrna plant in 1983. The year 1985 brought the stylish Sentra into the mix, which continues to be a fan favorite, and the brand's debut of its first four-door truck, the Frontier, appeared in the late 1990s. Also emerging in the 1990s were the rugged Xterra and the versatile Pathfinder, as well as the dependable Altima. Dabbling in hybrid technology, the Altima hybrid emerged, and around this same time in the early 2000s, Nissan introduced its finest performance vehicle, the magnificent GT-R.

The lovable Cube made its way onto the streets in 2009 and was much in line with other popular options at the time, like the Scion xB and the Honda Element. As more and more drivers sought out sustainability, Nissan introduced the Nissan LEAF, which would become the world's first affordable mass-produced EV. Today, the LEAF is built at the Smyrna plant, making Tennessee a leader in EV production. Other sporty and funky options that emerged from the brand include the spontaneous Kicks, stylish Rogue and Rogue Sport, the beautiful Murano, the large-scale Armada, and the exciting Ariya, the brand's first-ever all-electric crossover. Lynchburg drivers can also find a nice selection of sedans, including the peppy Versa and comfortable Maxima, in the Nissan mix.

6 Reasons to Choose Nissan

#1 - Value

When you purchase a new Nissan model, you will be getting a lot of bang for your buck. Whether you want a sedan, truck, or SUV, you will get the latest technology for a fraction of the price. Nissan vehicles are much more affordable than many competitors. You can also choose from a wide range of trim levels, from cars with the basic necessities to models that include all the bells and whistles. However, even the most affordable Nissan vehicles have all the most important safety and technology features.

#2 - Safety

New Nissan models come with an array of safety features, including strategically placed airbags, stability and traction control, and rearview cameras. All current models even come with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite standard. This comprehensive package adds high beam assist, blindspot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and rear automatic braking. These are features that you would pay a lot of money for on competing models.

#3 - Technology

Aside from safety features, advanced technology is something everyone loves! That's why the new Nissan vehicles all come with an innovative infotainment interface that has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. You can make calls, send text messages, and stream music without using your hands. You can even use compatible apps on the vehicle's standard touchscreen interface.

#4 - Fuel Economy

We know that Lynchburg drivers spend a lot of time on the road and value fuel economy. The good news is that many Nissan vehicles are engineered to get much better gas mileage than their competitors. This includes Nissan trucks, as they tend to be lighter than American-made pickups, which translates into better gas mileage down the road. Also, don't forget about the Nissan Leaf. As one of the most popular EVs on the market, you'll be hard-pressed to find another EV as good as this nifty hatchback.

#5 - Maintenance

Nissan vehicles are known for being reliable and long-lasting, and even if something were to go wrong, you'd have a great team to help make things right. Here at Newton Nissan South, we have a team of certified technicians that can work on your Nissan vehicle at your convenience. Simply visit our service center, and we will get you back out on the road in no time.

#6 - Selection

Many diverse options exist in the Nissan family of vehicles, including tough trucks like the Frontier and Titan, sports cars like the speedy Z, and even more incredible options to come from this beloved automaker. As more Nissan models emerge, including a selection of cutting-edge electric vehicles, drivers everywhere are excited about the evolution of the Nissan brand. Whether you work in Lynchburg or spend a lot of time commuting across Tennessee, Nissan has a vehicle for you.

A tan 2022 Nissan Rogue Platinum is shown parked in a home driveway.

2022 Nissan Rogue

The changes made for the 2022 Rogue haven't gone unnoticed. The most notable change stems from the elimination of the previous base powertrain. Last year, Nissan offered the Rogue with a 2.5L I-4 engine paired with a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT). However, for 2022, Nissan decided to swap this older engine for a new 1.5L turbocharged powerplant that takes advantage of Nissan's exclusive fuel-saving technologies.

Nissan had made the right call by eliminating the 2.5L I-4 engine for a turbocharged 1.5L I-3. Not only did the engine swap ensure better performance for the 2022 Rogue, but thanks to the smaller form factor of this turbocharged engine, it also allows for far greater fuel efficiency than the preceding models. Ultimately, what this means is the 2022 Rogue creates 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, which is a stark increase from the 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque that preceded it. And, of course, the former EPA-estimated ratings of 27 MPG city and 35 MPG highway were increased to 30 MPG city and 37 MPG highway.

Even if it weren't for the exceptional performance gains the 2022 Rogue brought to the lineup, it's undoubtedly a feature-rich vehicle and a reliable one to boot. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2022 Rogue a Top Safety Pick+, which is the highest rating it offers. As for the features you'll get inside of your 2022 Rogue, it's an impressive showing in all facets of the driving experience. Safety is handled by the inclusion of the Nissan Safety Shield 360 Safety Suite, adding a host of driver-assist features that includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and much more. The infotainment center also deserves mention with its standard 8-inch touchscreen, which includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and more.

2022 Nissan Sentra

The 2022 Nissan Sentra carries over all of the strengths of its predecessor, which is to say that it performs admirably for a vehicle in its price range. The Sentra isn't the most affordable vehicle in Nissan's lineup––that honor belongs to the Versa. However, when looking into Nissan's lineup of five sedans, the Sentra is more affordable than the three models above it, meaning it's still aimed to give drivers an excellent and safe driving experience that won't break the bank.

Powering the Sentra is a small but efficient 2.0L I-4 engine paired to a CVT that creates 149 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. One of the most appealing benefits of this powertrain is its exceptional EPA-estimated ratings of 29 MPG city and 39 MPG highway. With this kind of fuel efficiency, the Sentra is an excellent fit for Lynchburg commuters who need an affordable yet reliable automobile to get them to and from their destinations regularly. The powertrain is part of what makes the Sentra such an enticing offer because you'll get the same performance with the base model as you would with the priciest trim level on offer.

Perhaps the most impressive part about the Sentra, however, is that it comes with a host of standard features, including, but not limited to, the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite––complete with all of the safety features that entail. The Sentra also has one of the most impressive showings for multimedia features in a vehicle in this price range, thanks to an included 7-inch infotainment center that comes with all of the features that you'd expect in pricier vehicles. These features include the much appreciated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and if you'd prefer a larger touchscreen, you can opt for an 8-inch display instead.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder

With three rows of seats to offer everyone on board the space they need, plus impeccable off-roading abilities and a rugged sense of adventure, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is a top choice when you're seeking out your next family-friendly SUV. The Pathfinder features seating for eight, as well as bold style and tons of tech options throughout to make even the most mundane rides more appealing. A maximum towing capability of 6,000 lbs and an intelligent 4x4 system make the Pathfinder the ultimate companion on any journey. Showcasing a new design for 2022, drivers love the aggressive stance and loads of charisma that radiate from this popular Nissan option.

Venture inside this spacious SUV for upgrades galore, including available captain's chairs in the second row, semi-aniline leather trim in upgraded models, a panoramic sunroof, and more upscale appointments throughout. You'll also notice that this modern machine provides you with all the tech you need to stay connected, protected, and entertained, no matter where you're going next. Perfect for Lynchburg families, adventure-seekers, and commuters, the 2022 Pathfinder sports a more chiseled look than older models, and its enhanced features inside and out help make this fine Nissan model better than ever before.

2022 Nissan Frontier

The wait for a new generation of the Frontier is over with the 2022 model, which features a sleeker, more modern style, upgraded capabilities, and comfort that you won't be able to find in its predecessors. The 2022 Frontier has undergone quite an extensive redesign, with contemporary style emanating out of its exterior and traveling into its refined cabin. More tech, increased safety features, and ample style elevates this midsize pickup to new heights, and drivers are here for it. With outstanding off-road capabilities, impressive towing power, and a more durable bed, the 2022 Frontier makes any goal more attainable.

For the 2022 Frontier, being the most affordable truck in the Nissan lineup doesn't stop it from performing exceptionally well for the price. With this truck comes a standard 3.8L V6 engine paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and you'll find this engine on every trim from the S to the PRO-4X. Performance, towing, and surprisingly decent fuel economy ratings are all yours with the 2022 Frontier. This includes 310 hp, 281 lb-ft of torque, and EPA-estimated ratings of 18 MPG city and 24 MPG highway. As for towing, you'll have a maximum capacity of 6,720 lbs, perfect for hobbyists or the occasional handyman.

Inside the Frontier, you'll find an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen standard, but this can be swapped out for a 9-inch screen as an alternative. It's an impressive showing for an infotainment center, complete with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. Customers who are willing to spend a bit extra can also enjoy the benefits of a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot for fast and secure internet that travels with you at all times. And, a wireless smartphone charging pad means that you won't need to worry about bringing along a USB cable––unless you're going to be using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, that is.

An available Intelligent Around View Monitor allows you to see more clearly around your vehicle, and with the optional Off-Road Mode, navigating rough Tennessee terrain has never been easier. One look inside the new Frontier, and you'll notice a substantial upgrade to its design, including soft-touch materials, a heated steering wheel, and more elegant features waiting to wow you from within. Perhaps one of the most anticipated offerings from the Nissan brand, the 2022 Frontier is ready to be the showstopper it was born to be, and truck enthusiasts are loving it.

A brown 2022 Nissan Titan is shown from the front off-roading on a rocky trail.

2022 Nissan Titan

If you require a vehicle with power, then look no further than the 2022 Titan. If you're looking for even more power, then the 2022 Titan XD is the answer to your problems. The Titan is what happens when a manufacturer wants to push the limits of its lineup and wants to create a truck that can compete with some of the greatest vehicles ever sold. It's no small coincidence that Nissan puts tremendous efforts into its pickup trucks, especially when you consider that some of the top-selling vehicles in Tennessee are none other than pickup trucks.

The main draw of the 2022 Titan and Titan XD is its standard 5.6L V8 engine, giving every trim 400 hp. As more and more manufacturers switch to smaller engines in their trucks, Nissan holds fast to the traditional V8. Thanks to this engine, not only do we get the aforementioned 400 hp, but it's accompanied by an impressive 413 lb-ft of torque. If you're more than a hobbyist and require legitimate grunt to get your work done, then there's no downside to having this type of performance.

The Titan XD is powered by the same Endurance V8 engine is present, but the frame and suspension have been upgraded to allow for greater towing, and the truck has a greater payload capacity to boot. With the regular Titan, this powertrain helps the truck handle a maximum towing capacity of 9,320 lbs and a payload capacity of 1,690 lbs. The Titan XD increases those numbers to a towing capacity of 11,060 lbs and a payload capacity of 2,430 lbs. With these ratings, the Titan XD is Nissan's most capable vehicle, and it's an accolade it rightfully deserves.

2022 Nissan Armada

If you are interested in a full-size SUV, then the 2022 Nissan Armada is the way to go, with three rows of seating for up to eight passengers. Despite its large size, the Armada is still incredibly fun to drive and surprisingly nimble thanks to its powerful 5.6L V8 engine that delivers 400 hp and comes paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission to ensure a responsive and powerful experience on the road. Although it comes with rear-wheel drive standard, the Armada has four-wheel drive available if you prefer the added traction that it provides. This is a large and powerful SUV, giving you more than 92 cu.ft. of interior cargo space and up to 8,500 lbs of maximum towing capacity.

The inside of the Nissan Armada is truly breathtaking, with some of the most impressive luxury and technology options on the road. Dual-zone automatic temperature control, a Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button start, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display all come standard. Plus, you get a 7-inch advanced drive-assist display, Nissan door-to-door navigation, steering-wheel-mounted controls, and much more. Available options include a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system, climate-controlled front seating, rich quilted leather-appointed seats, and a tri-zone entertainment system with a pair of 8-inch screens for back seat passengers.

2021 Nissan Kicks

Small but mighty, the 2021 Nissan Kicks is ready to deliver a high-energy ride with loads of comfort throughout its cozy cabin. Practicality reigns supreme in the fun-loving Kicks, as you'll find numerous ways to enjoy this Nissan favorite, which has been redesigned for the 2021 model year. You can expect to enjoy a smooth, controlled ride with superior agility and responsiveness that can't be rivaled. Efficient, fun to drive, and stylish, the Kicks provides Lynchburg drivers with everything they're searching for and more.

That's why it continues to be a popular pick in the Nissan lineup for those who desire more thrill in their journey.

2021 Nissan Rogue

The ultimate in style and function, the next-gen Rogue is sure to delight even the most discerning travelers. Its updated exterior showcases a bold, modern style, while its dialed-in interior features a carefully curated design combined with exceptional versatility throughout. Ample cargo space of 74.1 cu.ft., plus multiple ways to configure its seating, make transporting anything as easy as ever. Upgrades to its interior features for 2021 include an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, panoramic sunroof, and genuine leather appointments in higher-level trims.

Perhaps what makes the Rogue so revolutionary is Nissan's ProPILOT Assist technology, which allows for semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Not only are you able to enjoy a more focused experience behind the wheel, but it also helps to have your vehicle watching out for you and making your drive better. A prominent 8-inch touchscreen comes standard with an option to upgrade to an even larger 9-inch version, providing you with access to all of your favorite in-vehicle apps plus add-ons like built-in navigation, Bose premium audio system, and more. Opt for higher-level trims to enjoy a beautiful Head-Up Display to showcase pertinent information right on the windshield, like the speed limit and navigation prompts, as well as a wireless charging pad to keep all your devices charged up and ready to go while you're on the go.

Caring for Your Nissan

Getting the most out of your Nissan means taking proper care of it, and that all comes down to service and maintenance. We know that having your vehicle serviced is not the most fun or romantic part of owning and enjoying a Nissan, but it really is crucial. Spending a few hours having your car, truck, or SUV cared for means you can enjoy those nighttime drives, early morning cruises, and long weekend road trips without worrying about a breakdown or other issues. The peace of mind that proper maintenance provides you with is well worth the slight inconvenience of taking care of your car.

Here at Newton Nissan South, we pride ourselves on making it as easy and hassle-free as possible for Lynchburg drivers to have their vehicles serviced. Our certified service center is open with flexible hours during the week and weekend, giving you a place to go to keep your Nissan up to factory spec. We have free Wi-Fi at our service center for you to take advantage of while you wait, so you do not have to stop working or be disconnected from the people in your life. Our fully-stocked coffee bar features coffee and other refreshments for you to enjoy (sorry, no Jack Daniels) while we service your vehicle. And you can take advantage of a complimentary car wash after service, so not only will your car keep running beautifully, but it will look beautiful too.

If you need more extensive service that will not be completed in a short time, then we have loaner vehicles available for you to use. This way, you do not have to put your life on hold just because your car needs repairs that might take a couple of days. We also offer roadside towing services, so if you find yourself in a tight spot and need to get your vehicle to us, we will come to you and tow your vehicle to our dealership for service. All of this ensures we are able to work with all of our customers, no matter what you need, to keep your vehicle in great shape and get you back on the road again quickly.

Proper Service Schedule

The most important part of taking care of your vehicle is following a proper maintenance schedule and routine, which all comes down to following the manufacturer's service intervals. Nissan provides recommended maintenance intervals for their vehicles, giving you a good sense of the schedule you need to keep. Just remember that you should always check the owner's manual for your specific model to see how often you need to care for it. If you have any questions, just contact the team here at Newton Nissan, and we will get you the answers you need.

Nissan recommends you adhere to the following intervals on most recent models (note that the mileage and time indicate whichever comes first). But remember, this schedule will vary depending on your model, driving habits, and more, so consider this a general guide.

  • Every 7,500 Miles/6 Months – Change your engine oil and replace the oil filter; you should also rotate your tires and have your vehicle inspected for other issues.
  • Every 15,000 Miles/12 Months – Have your brake pads and brake fluid inspected; you should also have your transmission fluid checked and replace your windshield wiper blades and cabin air filter.
  • Every 30,000 Miles/24 Months – Replace your engine air filter and brake fluid. You should also have your exhaust system and fuel lines inspected along with your suspension and axles.
  • Every 60,000 Miles/48 Months - Inspect CVT fluid and drive belts, replacing if necessary.
  • At 105,000 Miles/86 Months - Replace spark plugs and engine coolant.

Keep in mind that these are all cumulative procedures; in other words, at the 60,000-mile mark, you should have everything done for 5,000 miles, 15,000 miles, and 30,000 miles. It is also important to remember that these are general guidelines for typical vehicle use. If you have a long commute to work like many Lynchburg drivers, you might put a lot more wear and tear on your car and require service or maintenance more often. Similarly, if you like to go off-road in something like the Nissan Frontier, then you will need to have your air filters replaced more often since they will have a lot more dust and dirt to deal with than vehicles for most drivers.
