  • Interior

Nissan has been perfecting the art of design for years, developing new and exciting technology for their vehicles that combine design elements and functionality. One such development is Nissan’s Zero Gravity Seats, found in many of their newer vehicles. Zero Gravity seats are designed to decrease body fatigue and provide increased comfort during long drives. In the S, the front Zero gravity Seats are wrapped in cloth upholstery, which blends seamlessly into the rest of the interior. If anything, the Kicks S proves you don’t have to pay top dollar to get a vehicle with revolutionary ideas.

    Seating Configurations

The driver seat is adjustable with six manually changeable settings, while the front passenger seat enjoys four adjustment options. Although they're not power-adjustable, this seems like the perfect place to shed a few pounds to make a more affordable vehicle. After all, how many times does one adjust their seat? The rear of the Kicks S is equipped with a bench seat that can be folded for maximum cargo capacity, 32.3 cu.ft. to be exact. The 60/40 folding function lets you utilize the space as you see fit. The folding split feature is especially nice if you are carrying both people and cargo, making it the ideal compromise.

    Connectivity

Above the center stack is an embedded 7-inch color touchscreen, which provides access to the vehicle’s infotainment features. Integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration lets you connect compatible smart devices, putting your important data front and center. For iPhone users, the S comes equipped with Siri Eyes Free, which provides easy access to the Siri voice technology. For anyone not sporting an iPhone, the vehicle also comes standard with the Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System, which lets you use voice control for applicable features. The S also comes standard with Bluetooth streaming audio to stream your own tunes.

  • Safety

Well-known for safety, Nissan makes it a point to load up each vehicle with the best and most cutting-edge safety technology. Even as the base trim, the Nissan Kicks S is still packed with safety systems, like the Nissan Safety Shield 360. Nissan Safety Shield 360 is a suite of driver safety and convenience technology that covers the vehicle from front to back.

    Nissan Safety Shield 360

First up in the safety suite is Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. This feature uses sensors to monitor how close you are to the vehicle in front of you, issuing a warning if you need to slow down a bit and add some distance. If the system detects the potential for a collision, it can initiate braking to slow the vehicle and, in return, lessen impact damage. If the system senses a pedestrian walking or on a bike, it can put on the brakes entirely, improving safety for everyone.

Lane Departure Warning is another safety measure included on the Kicks S, which monitors unintentional lane drift. If the program senses that the vehicle is wavering from the lane due to distracted or tired driving, the vehicle will sound an alert to gain attention. If you are switching lanes on purpose and there is a vehicle in your blind spot, Blind Spot Warning will also sound off, making you aware of the obstacle so you can act.

    Other Standard Safety Features

Other safety features in the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite include High Beam Assist, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. High Beam Assist detects oncoming traffic and switches from high to low beam to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles. When the vehicle has passed, and the system detects that it is safe to do so, it will switch back to high beams. Rear Automatic Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Alert work much like the systems that protect the front, monitoring obstacles in the rear. The programs either sound an alarm or initiate braking when a rear collision is detected.

As implied by the name, the Nissan Safety Suite 360 covers the entirety of the vehicle. The Kicks provides a comfortable and safe drive thanks to the many standard safety features. Other standard tools include Forward Collision Warning, Hill Start Assist, and the RearView Monitor, each intended to make your drive a safer one.

  • Performance

The grille on a white 2023 Nissan Kicks S is shown.

The Nissan Kicks S won’t be speeding across the finish line in first place, but that’s okay because this agile, sporty, and fun drive has it where it counts. Crossovers aren't necessarily known for their speed or power but rather their nimbleness, which the Kicks has in spades. With great fuel efficiency and easy maneuverability, the Kicks is ideal for city life or highway cruising. Navigate busy streets or slip through traffic-ridden highways with ease.

A Sleek Exterior Designed to Maximize Performance

The Kicks is designed to optimize movement, resulting in an aerodynamic styling. A sloped hood and curved top feed air where it needs to go to keep the Kicks running fast. Sleek, sculpted sides and a lightweight frame allow the Kicks to slice through the traffic and go full speed ahead. These features play heavily into its impressive efficiency.

    Excellent Fuel Economy

The Kicks S gets 31 MPG in the city and a whopping 36 MPG on the highway, preventing you from living at the pump. With such impressive fuel efficiency, you might be thinking the Kicks is actually a smart car, and although the build is smart, everything within the Kicks is old school. Such efficiency comes from a symphony of factors perfectly played together by the maestro that is Nissan.

    The Standard 1.6-Liter Engine

The Kicks S is equipped with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 122 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque. Though this is far from powerful, it is extremely efficient, especially paired with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), offering unique shifting. Thanks to its design, the CVT can shift without any gaps or hiccups, providing a near-seamless drive. The CVT has seamless shifting because it does not use set gears to transfer torque. Nissan has perfected the system, resulting in a swift shift and smooth sailing for anyone driving a CVT vehicle. Additionally, continuously variable transmissions also play a role in fuel efficiency, which is another reason Nissan prefers using them.
